Ms. Mollie Bea Robertson, affectionally known to many as “Momma Mollie” was born in Forest Home, Alabama on July 19, 1935 to William “Bill” Couch and Geneva Couch. She grew up in Andalusia, Alabama before moving to Buffalo, New York where she resided for decades until moving to Sacramento, CA in 2013. For many years, she followed her passion for sewing as a professional seamstress for the now closed AM&As Department Store. Her talented creativity & sewing abilities also sparked her entrepreneurial spirit to design, construct and sell women’s church hats, lap scarves and clothing. In addition to, being a gifted seamstress, she fulfilled her life pursuing her many other talents. Her deep love for the well-being of people led to her career as a Nurses Assistant and care provider. During her tenure as a Nurse’s Assistant, she earned an Associate’s degree in Nursing. She also spent several years doing a job she loved as a Boys and Girls club Athletic Instructor where she was known for her stern look, tough love and mentorship. She was a busy woman and always gave back her to community. She volunteered countless hours as an activist improving the living conditions of those in the neighborhoods where she lived. She was well known for being a dedicated Woman of God. During her life, she held many positions within the Church of God in Christ such as Church Mother, Church Treasure, Missionary, Deaconess, Sunday School Teacher, Bible Study Leader, and mentor. She leaves to cherish her memory, her only child: David J. Byrd Sr, a daughter-in-law: Teddrisa R. Byrd, three grandchildren: Davion, Dazzion and David Jr, two sisters: Jennell Thurman and Annette Johnson, a host of nieces and nephews, as well as many friends and Godchildren.
