Jeanne Diane Ecker 62, passed away Friday, November 23, 2018 at Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento, CA from Endometrial Stromal Sarcoma. She was visited by her fellow church members, friends, and family throughout the day. Her sister, Laura, and brother-in-law, Ryan, were with her reading psalms and singing “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus” when she passed. Jeanne’s faith remained strong and it carried her through the end.
She was born on May 18, 1956 in Westbury, New York to Anthony and Julia Curatolo. Jeanne was born a twin, beating out her sister Jill by 10 minutes, making her the oldest girl in the family.
Jeanne grew up in Westbury, New York in a family of two loving parents, her maternal grandmother, and seven other siblings. There, she developed a love of family and a passion for Christ; both grew throughout her life.
Jeanne excelled at sports starting at an early age with dance, swim team, volleyball, softball, and field hockey. She was always up for a game, and helped and encouraged others. She graduated WT Clarke High School in Westbury, NY, where she contributed as a leader and was nominated captain of many teams. To her joy, she was able to share her love of the game of softball with her daughter Jaclyn. Jeanne was a volunteer coach, trainer, cheerleader, and traveled to many tournaments. Her favorite pro team was the NY Yankees.
In NY she met and married the love of her life, Jeff Ecker, on September 20, 1978. Jeanne and Jeff had two children, Benjamin and Jaclyn. Jeanne and her family moved to California in 1988 where Jeanne was a carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, which she retired from in January 2018.
She was very passionate about her family and, if she knew you, you were family. She had a heart for people, and all were welcome at her table. She was an avid cook and used that as a way to bring family and friends together. When you were there she made you feel special and loved. She passed this love of cooking on to her son Benjamin, who shares his culinary creations at family gatherings.
Her love of family and people comes from her unwavering passion for Christ. She belonged to Saint Joseph Parish in Elk Grove, CA. She was always excited to be a part of their Saint Patrick’s Day celebration; making Irish Soda Bread and her famous brisket to feed the masses. She was a member and leader of the F.C.C.W., and taught classes for the Sacrament of Communion and Confirmation. She was an advocate to the unborn, attending a prayer march just weeks before her passing.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Julia Curatolo and her brother, Peter Curatolo (Marie). She is survived by her father, Anthony Curatolo; her husband, Jeff Ecker, son Benjamin Ecker, daughter Jaclyn Guinane, (Samuel), grandson Wyatt, her soon to be granddaughter and namesake, Sawyer Jeanne; her brothers, Richard (Virginia), Roger, and Anthony Curatolo Jr. (Veronica); her Twin sister Jill Johnston; Sisters Linda Curatolo and Laura Miller (Ryan); her many nieces, nephews, and her loving dog Sadie.
